Powerlifting: a short summary
During a meet, the powerlifting athlete competes in three specific disciplines, each designed to measure different areas of human strength. The sum or total of the best lift in each discipline determines the winner. The three disciplines, in contest order, that make up the sport are the Squat, Bench press and Deadlift. (Source: IPF)
How does an attempt work? How can I encourage the athletes?
For each discipline, an athlete has 3 attempts, although occasionally an attempt can be repeated, for example due to technical errors. Encouraging the athletes is very much welcome during the completion of the lifts or before the attempts. Since the commands are crucial for a successful lift (such as the “press” signal during the bench press), they should be heard.
The medals ceremony
At the end of the competition, the participating athletes are called to the platform and the winners are crowned. The national anthems of the winners’ countries are played. It’s considered appropriate to stand up during the anthem.
How much does the entry cost?
Totally free!
Catering options
Drinks and food are offered during competitions. Larger options are available at international ones hosted in Luxembourg, ranging from full menus (pasta, potato salad, etc.) to the “Grillwurscht”, all under the “Fair Präisser” label.
Can I bring kids?
Anybody who is interested can come. Children are commonly seen during PWFL competitions.
Is the venue accessible for people with reduced mobility?
Hall Omnisports in Hamm is accessible for people with reduced mobility.
Can I film or take pictures?
Of course! In addition to the livestream and media team’s coverage, you’re welcome to take your own pictures or film athletes’ attempts. Feel free to tag @pwflux on Instagram!
