How it works

Contrary to the nationals and most other competitions, the athletes aren’t assigned to weight classes. Yet, body weight still matters as the contestants get judged by Goodlift Points, the international formula introduced by the IPF in 2020 that evaluates the relative strength performance and body weight of athletes.

The 4 strongest female and male participants from each side enter the final ranking for the club competition. Individual trophies are awarded to the best overall female and male lifter.

What are the odds and stakes?

Friendly but fierce – these are the words that best describe the competition going on between both Luxembourgish clubs. While joined forces and solidarity and the norm at international tournaments such as Benelux and Small Nations Cup, this Sunday will witness a rivalry truly forged in iron. Nothing less than revenge is on the menu: last year saw the Hamm men coming out victorious whereas the Silverbacks narrowly beat their opponents in the women’s competition.

On the men’s side, the Silverbacks are entering the tournament as the clear favorites, with several Hamm athletes passing this time due to injuries, timing or life priorities. Nonetheless, soured emotions from 2024 are still fueling the fire and both clubs intend to not only show up but show what they’re made of.

Who can participate

The cup’s popularity is due to the fact that it allows a wide range of lifters to participate and places a higher focus on team results than on individual titles. Therefore it’s also a popular starting competition for beginners (along with the First Step meet). Athletes with Luxembourgish nationality and those with Luxembourgish residency during at least two years are allowed to compete. Traditionally, this meet is known as one where plenty of records are broken.

How to watch the tournament

Like all PWFL competitions, Coupe de Luxembourg is open to the public and anybody interested into watching and encouraging the athletes. A seating area as well as drinks and food will be available. A livestream will be set up on PWFL’s Youtube account.
